Counselor

Mrs. Diaz-Vela, Counselor at Northpointe Intermediate. Mrs. Diaz has been in Tomball ISD since 2020. Prior to joining Tomball ISD, Mrs. Diaz served in numerous roles, including Bilingual Reading Specialist, Dyslexia Evaluator, and as a counselor in Klein ISD. Before becoming a counselor, she was a classroom teacher at the elementary and secondary level and assisted with the creation of the dual language curriculum where she began her career fifteen years ago. Along with her teaching duties, Mrs. Diaz also sponsored the Spanish National Honor Society.
 
Mrs. Diaz graduated from the University of Houston with a BA in Spanish and BS in Interdisciplinary Studies, earned her MA in Dual Language from St. Thomas University, and her Counseling Certification program from Region IV.
 
 
 
Shannon Gutierrez, Counselor at Northpointe Intermediate.  Mrs. Gutierrez has been a counselor in Tomball ISD since 2020. She is excited to serve multiple campuses in TISD this year, including NIS. She looks forward to building strong relationships with students and their families.
Prior to joining Tomball ISD, Mrs. Gutierrez served in numerous roles, including counselor, interventionist and teacher during her 20 years in education.
 
Mrs. Gutierrez graduated from Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) with a BA in English and earned her MA in School Counseling from the University of Texas in Tyler.

The NIS Guidance and Counseling Department exists to serve all students in becoming productive and
responsible citizens, lifelong learners through academic development, personal and social growth, and
career exploration.

Mission:
The NIS Guidance and Counseling Department will provide a comprehensive and developmentally
appropriate program that addresses students' individual academic and social-emotional needs. We will
build collaborative relationships with families, staff, and community members to support student success.
